Leo is the sign connected to the self-contained energy of the fire element. In AstroYoga, fire represents spirit, creativity, and the alchemy of the heart.
Leo teaches that the true light of our being is the eternal flame of the heart, and that this is the fire that can alchemize any situation into a better one, full of love, creativity, and passion for awakening to the light of your own life.
Leo is ruled by the Sun. In astrology, the Sun represents the true radiant light of your being (when approached positively), and also the ego identities that we give our power to (when approached carelessly). A major gift during Leo season is the ability to discern the glamor (or artificial light) of various identities from the radiance of true joy and creativity when you embody your authentic self.
This Leo season has a Mercury retrograde, which is the perfect time to reflect on ways to allow your true radiance to shine, thereby releasing the pressure of outdated or inauthentic roles. This is also a time when you can ask yourself what activities, roles, or gifts would bring more joy and creative expression into your life.
In astrology, Leo is associated with the heart, spine, and upper back. These physical attributes connect to your capacity to radiate love, stand tall, and express your true self.
The heart is the area where you can find centering and inner truth (think of listening to your heart), while the spine supports your posture and strength. For your Leo energy to be flowing, the electrical nature of the spine and heart needs to be a guiding force in your personal expression. Tap into the energy of your spine and heart to move confidently according to your inner guidance in every situation.
Leo is associated with the third-eye chakra. The third-eye chakra is connected to ideas of having a higher vision of reality, and in its association with Leo, it represents the super-conscious guidance you receive from the highest layers of your own consciousness, in order to provide you insights and light when the way forward seems unclear.
During Leo season, you may find that these areas require extra attention. Yoga postures that open the heart and strengthen the spine, such as upward-facing-bow (back bending) or bridge pose, can be particularly beneficial. I suggest practicing these with your Oko Living yoga rug in Sunstone to bring in the fire element.
As you move through Leo season, give yourself permission to radiate your inner light without needing external validation as to why. Embrace envisioning a vibrant, creative life for yourself. Ask yourself what life would be like if your confidence and attentiveness to life shined forward positively on every person and situation you encountered, and then allow yourself to be uniquely that.
