Our rug is designed for any type of yoga from the fastest Vinyasa, sweaty hot yoga to a slow Yin.
They’re especially loved for:
- Vinyasa & Power Yoga – The grip improves with heat and sweat, helping you stay steady through dynamic flows
- Ashtanga & Mysore – Traditional roots meet modern function—this is closest to the original yoga surface
- Hatha & Alignment-based practices – The subtle texture engages muscles and supports proper form
- Hot Yoga – Naturally sweat-absorbent with no slipping or puddling
They also work beautifully for:
- Yin & Restorative – Breathable, soft, and non-toxic against the skin for longer holds
- Meditation & Pranayama – A grounded, natural surface that feels calming and connected to the body
Unlike overly sticky synthetic mats, the rug creates a balanced grip—encouraging you to activate muscles, build strength, and move with more control.
No our rugs don't skid and stay in place for even the most vigorous vinyasa. Unlike most yoga rugs we have a unique and invisible natural tree rubber coated bottom.
We make small batch slow crafted items that can sell out fast. We sometimes offer presale which will be noted on the product page. Out of stock mats are restocked about once a month.
The grip is better than any yoga rug because of our unique grip strip design which holds the hands and feet in place.
The grip gets better as you sweat unlike plastic that slips.
Our diamond mats have a diamond shaped grip patter and tree rubber on the top for grip thats even better than a rubber /plastic mat.
The cushion is comparable to a foam mat at the same thickness 3, 5 and 7mm.

The natural grip level of our yoga rugs help to engage your core muscles and align your body. The artificial grip of plastic mats allows you to relax your muscles putting more strain on the tendons.
Yes, you can hand or machine wash it gently in cold water with the soap nuts (included in every mat order) or natural detergent. Air dry in the shade.
Yes, all materials are natural, non-toxic, and safe around children and pets. If you are pregnant or have special concerns its best to always consult your Doctor. In general our herbal dyes are much safer than any chemical made dye.
Our mats last much longer than synthetic mats and will hold up for years with proper care. With natural dyes some color fading is normal and we see this as a beautiful effect of natures process.
As long as there is color in your mat the herbs and benefits are present. Natural dyes are more sensitive to sunlight so it's best to keep your mat out of prolonged sun. Some color fading is normal and we see this as a beautiful effect of natures process.
It comes down to how you want your body to feel and perform in your practice.
1. Real grip (not artificial stickiness)
Most mats rely on a tacky surface that can actually cause you to over-rely on friction. Our rugs create a natural, responsive grip that improves with heat and sweat—so you engage your muscles, stabilize your joints, and move with more control.
2. Builds strength + better alignment
Because the surface isn’t overly sticky, your body has to subtly activate to hold poses. Over time, this leads to stronger stabilizer muscles, better alignment, and more body awareness.
3. Breathable + sweat-absorbing
No more slipping on a layer of sweat. The organic cotton absorbs moisture instead of trapping it, making it ideal for hot yoga or long flows.
4. Non-toxic + skin-friendly
Unlike plastic mats made with PVC or synthetic rubbers, our rugs are crafted from organic cotton and herbal dyes—so you’re not breathing in or absorbing questionable chemicals during practice.
5. Grounded, natural feel
There’s a different experience when you practice on a natural fiber. It feels calmer, more connected, and less “industrial”—closer to how yoga was originally practiced.
6. Durable + washable
You can actually machine wash your rug, and it won’t break down the way foam or plastic mats do over time.
Each Öko Living rug is a work of art, handcrafted over 15 days using organic cotton and traditional herbal dyeing methods. It’s made in small batches by skilled artisans—not mass-produced in factories.
This isn’t just a mat—it’s a labor-intensive, high-integrity product designed to last for years.
While many large brands operate on 10–12x markups—and factory-made mats are inexpensive to produce, often at a higher environmental cost—we keep ours closer to 3x. That means you’re paying for the true cost of materials, craftsmanship, and ethical production, not inflated margins.
The reality is: larger companies could have replicated this by now, but it’s difficult to match this level of quality, intention, and price balance at scale.
You’re investing in something thoughtfully made, deeply functional, and designed to elevate your practice.
