Greetings, new Öko affiliates! Sierra here. I’m the current Community Manager for Öko Living. But before that, I was Öko’s most successful affiliate salesperson. But here’s to hoping you take over my spot! *cheers*
I wanted to share some of my affiliate tricks with you. What I’ve done, what’s been successful, and how you can recreate these tricks and be a successful affiliate too. Remember to always reach out to me at marketing.okoliving@gmail.com if you have any additional questions. I’m here to help you succeed!
I’ve earned nearly $2,000 in affiliate income from Öko Living in the past six months. And the best part? It’s all money earned from work I did six months ago. Meaning while earning affiliate income, I could explore Portugal, spend time with family, and even take a girls’ trip to Vegas! Affiliate income can be a reliable, fun, passive source of income if you set it up correctly.
So, let’s break this down step by step, shall we? Here are the four steps I used in order to find success as an Öko Living affiliate.
Ok, we’re going to start back a step, but only because I really want to iterate on how important this is and get you jazzed for Öko Living’s program because it’s amazing. I’ve signed up for gobs of affiliate programs before. But I usually didn’t see much success. I may have earned five bucks here or there, but only after what felt like tireless posting and bugging my community about my new affiliate partner. And even worse, I still haven’t seen some of those earnings. Many brands set high payout minimums, meaning you don’t get paid at all until you hit a certain amount of sales. No bueno. One of my favorite companies (that I still promote and love) set a $100 payout minimum, and I’ve been sitting agonizingly at $80 in earned commissions for a while now. Fingers crossed that we cross over soon.
I bring this up because I want to highlight two things:
Öko Living has a gracious payout minimum of $10, meaning that for every affiliate sale you make, you’ll be paid for it.
Öko also has a commission rate of 10% (pretty standard for most affiliate programs). But because their products are so high quality, a 10% commission means a $15 - $20 payment for you. Just for one sale!
This is a no-brainer for me. Plus, I already loved Öko’s products. I loved their dedication to sustainability. And their products were aesthetically pleasing, high-quality, and highly rated. (Translation = easy to sell.) So, my first tip for finding affiliate success is to pick a program with low payout minimums, high commissions, and a sell-ability that resonates with you. And look at you, Öko Living has all of that! So you’re already on the right path. Great job!
What gave me the right to tell people what kind of yoga mat they should buy? Well, I’m a yoga teacher and a yoga student. My media brand, The Local Mystic, has created educational and inspirational content about yoga, mindfulness, and sustainability for over five years. I had become an authority on the topic of yoga and wellness. Odds are, if you’re here, you feel some kind of connection to yoga and mindfulness. Some of you might be teachers in your own right. That’s awesome! You’re an authority. If you’re not a teacher, don’t sweat it. You can still become an authority. You simply show others that you are actively practicing, studying, and living a wellness lifestyle. This can take on various forms. Use your imagination! Maybe you share a bit about your journaling practices in the morning. Maybe you commit yourself to a yoga challenge and show up on your Instagram stories every day to talk about it. Before you try to sell a yoga mat to people, you have to convince them that you would have good taste in yoga mats. Try to show people this; don’t just tell them. Hopefully, you’re already living your life in a way that makes mindfulness and yoga a focal point. Just share that with people!
The problem with affiliate marketing is that many people think they can post once about something, and the orders should come flooding in. Unless you’re Taylor Swift announcing the Eras Tour, that’s probably not going to happen. To find affiliate success, you either need to a.) talk about your partner multiple times or b.) have a prominent, permanent feature of your partner so that everyone who visits your page (website, channel, etc.) sees it. Ideally, you would do both of these things. But because we’re just getting started, I recommend creating your static feature first. What does a static feature look like? Here are some examples:
An Instagram story highlight that features you talking about your Öko mat, sharing your link, and sharing your discount code.
A site-wide sidebar image on your website of you using your mat, maybe with your promo code mentioned.
A description of your Öko Living mat in the description of your most popular YouTube video, including your referral link and code.
Here’s an example of my static Öko Living feature on my website. I created this sidebar ad with my affiliate link once on the backend of my site, and now it shows up on every single blog post I publish, making it easy for people to click and shop.
Here’s an example of my static Öko Living feature on my YouTube channel! You can see in the third paragraph I’ve highlighted the Öko Living mat that I used in my video. I add this paragraph to all my YouTube videos, regardless of whether the mat is featured in the video or not (but it’s a big bonus when it is!). This means that whenever someone watches one of my YouTube videos, they can shop Öko Living with my discount code as well.
After you find the static feature that best suits you and your audience, you’re ready to move on to your final step.
So, you’ve established your authority to your audience. You have your link and promo code prominently displayed. Now, it’s time to get more eyeballs on it! This is where the dedication comes in. The cool thing is you don’t have to post constantly just about Öko Living. That’s what makes this formula so great! As long as you’re consistently providing value with your page/your channel/your website, and your affiliate link is displayed, people will find it! As I mentioned before, talking directly and freshly about your Öko mat is still beneficial. Because if people know you’re still using your mat regularly, they’re more likely to take an interest in it. Plus, it’s a known fact in business that people often need to hear about a product multiple times before they buy it. Keep creating the content that you enjoy and that your audience loves. That’s why they tune in to you. That’s why they trust you. And ultimately, that’s why they’ll take your suggestions on what kind of yoga mat to buy.
Here are some of my favorite ways to drive traffic to my website and YouTube:
Pinterest: for every blog post I share, I’ll create at least 3 pins to share on Pinterest. These are super easy to create in Canva or your favorite design software. You can also create pins specifically for your Öko Living affiliate code, as I did here. These are easily created with images from the brand. Just be sure to include your affiliate link and add some keywords to your Pin description, just like I did.
SEO: SEO (or search engine optimization) is a beast all in itself. We wouldn’t be able to cover it all here. But essentially, you want to use words or phrases that people would search for when you’re creating your content. “Sustainable yoga mat,” “best yoga rug,” and “cotton yoga mat” are some examples of strong SEO terms. When you’re writing your blogs or titling your YouTube videos, think about what people would type into a search bar if they were looking for this information. This will help you drive traffic to your website, meaning more eyeballs on your static affiliate feature and more sales!
I know I just threw a lot at you. Hopefully, some of it inspires you to get cracking on your Öko affiliate game. Take it from me: the results can be wondrous! Let’s distill what we covered here in a little game plan for you.
Create content that positions you as an authority in the health & wellness space (instructional Instagram videos, blog, YouTube videos, etc.)
Introduce Öko Living to your audience with an unboxing / your initial reaction. Share your affiliate link.
Create a static feature of your Öko Living affiliate code (sidebar ad, story highlight, etc.). Make sure this will be easily accessible to everyone who visits your social channels.
Drive traffic to your socials with SEO. whether you’re sharing on a blog or Instagram, always be mindful of phrases and words that people might use when searching. If you can make them related to the product you’re selling (“sustainable yoga mat,” “best yoga rug,” “cotton yoga mat”), you’ll be more likely to find people looking for a product like Öko Living yoga rugs.
