Start your practice by sitting comfortably and closing your eyes. Take a few deep breaths, feeling the energy of the sun. Set an intention for your practice. It could be something you want to cultivate or a gratitude you wish to express.
Begin with a series of sun salutations to honor the sun’s power. These movements will warm your body and energize your spirit.
1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana): Stand tall with feet together, grounding through your feet.
2. Upward Salute (Urdhva Hastasana): Inhale, raise your arms overhead, and reach for the sky.
3. Forward Fold (Uttanasana): Exhale, fold forward, and relax your head and neck.
4. Halfway Lift (Ardha Uttanasana): Inhale, lift halfway with a flat back.
5. Plank Pose: Exhale, step back into plank, engaging your core.
6. Chaturanga Dandasana: Lower down halfway, keeping your elbows close to your body.
7. Upward-Facing Dog (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana): Inhale, lift your chest and thighs off the ground.
8. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): Exhale, lift your hips, and stretch back.
Repeat this sequence five times, moving with your breath.
Next, move into grounding poses to connect with the Earth.
1. Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II): Step your right foot forward, bend your knee, and extend your arms out to the sides. Hold for five breaths, then switch sides.
2. Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Stand tall, place your right foot on your left inner thigh, and balance. Hold for five breaths, then switch sides.
3. Garland Pose (Malasana): Squat down with your feet flat, bring your palms together at your heart, and press your elbows into your knees. Hold for five breaths.
Find a comfortable seated position for meditation. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Reflect on the abundance in your life and the growth you’ve experienced. Feel the sun’s warmth and let it fill you with gratitude.
Lie down on your back, relax your arms and legs, and close your eyes. Take a few moments to rest and absorb the energy of your practice.
